Respect for classmates, class materials, substitutes and the teacher is expected. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Speak kindly and thoughtfully. Do not handle teacher’s or classmate’s materials without permission. Do not write on the desks. Pick up your work area before you leave the classroom.
Students should be engaged during class everyday. Sleeping, unnecessary talking, distracting and disrespectful behavior will be addressed with the following consequences: warning, detention, call home, referral.
Classroom calculators. Calculators will be provided for class use. Use calculators with care. Calculators must be returned at the end of each hour.
Cell phone use is not permitted in the classroom. Students should place their phones in the calculator pocket they are assigned. First offense - detention. Second offense - phone is turned in to center and a parent must make an appointment in order for the phone to be returned.
Restroom and locker use should happen during passing time. Students may use two passes each card marking. Student agenda and ID is needed to use a pass. Poor time management resulting in additional pass use will count as a tardy.
Students must remain in their seats until dismissed by the teacher or substitute. Students may NOT LINE UP AT THE DOOR.. Students will remain seated until all classroom materials are returned and the teacher dismisses class.All school ID, tardy, absence and dress codes policies will be followed.
Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2 are state graduation requirements - you must pass these classes with a Semester Grade of D- or higher in order to graduate from high school. Quarter Grades GEOMETRY: 75% Assessments + 25% Homework & Classwork Semester Grade (All Classes): 40% Quarter 1 + 40% Quarter 2 + 20% Midterm Exam
Flipped Classroom - This year videos of all notes will be posted on Schoology. Students will watch each lesson at home and complete the example problems in their packet. In class the following day I will answer any questions regarding the notes and students will complete the homework in class. Students should ask questions, clarify their understanding and correct their mistakes when we go over the notes & homework in class.
Homework & Classwork– Students must complete the ENTIRE ASSIGNMENT ON TIME & SHOW WORK to receive full credit. This includes notes, warm ups, exit tickets, notes and other various class activities. Assignments will be marked down if incomplete or submitted to PowerSchool late.
Assessments - Tests and quizzes will be given periodically throughout each unit. Assessment grades may also include homework quizzes, warm ups and exit tickets. If you miss a test or quiz you are expected to take it when you return.
Late Work – Work must be submitted to Schoology on time. Late work is accepted for partial credit until the end of the week. Late work submitted after Saturday of each week will not be graded.
Absent Work– Students are responsible to check Schoology and complete all notes and work missed. Students who are ill have 1 day to complete any missed assignments. If a student is quarantined all material is due ON TIME. If a test or quiz is missed the student should be prepared to take the quiz the day they return from their absence or quarantine. Absences must be excused in Power School in order to receive credit.
Effort & Participation (EP pts) – Students MUST earn 10 points a week by engaging in positive classroom behaviors. Examples include checking and correcting homework, taking notes, answering questions, explaining mathematical reasoning, engaging in class discussions and participating in class activities..
Extra Credit - There will be various opportunities for extra credit. Some examples include volunteering for board work, completing extra assignments and math based projects.
CHEATING:We are here to LEARN. Students should be able to EXPLAIN how to solve any problem they have completed on their notes or homework. Use of another’s work as your own will result in a zero for the assignment or assessment and a meeting with Mrs. Sambanis. If this happens more than once students will not only receive a zero, but a referral will be written and parents, counselors, and administration will be notified.
